'The Girl with the Flaxen Hair' ('La fille aux cheveux de lin') is the eighth prelude from Debussy's 'Preludes, Book I.' The piece begins with a delicate arpeggio motif, from which much of the following music is derived. The piece builds in tension and volume towards a climax in the middle of the piece, before winding down for a tender, relaxing ending. The melancholic, dreamy nature of the piece lends itself very well to romantic and reflective scenes, and it has appeared in several TV and film soundtracks for this purpose. 'Prelude No. 15 in D-flat major,', commonly known as the 'Raindrop Prelude' is the longest and most well-known of Chopin's Op. 28 preludes. 'Prelude No. 1 in C major' is the first prelude of J.S. Bach's 'The Well-Tempered Clavier.' This collection of preludes and fugues in all 24 major and minor keys, dated 1722, is generally regarded as one of the most influential works in the history of Western classical music. The music consists almost entirely of rising broken chords, which gives the piece a calming, romantic and majestic quality. This lends itself very well to period drama soundtracks, and any scene where ideas of dignity and beauty need to be complemented by music.
