'Prelude No. 1 in C major' is the first prelude of J.S. Bach's 'The Well-Tempered Clavier.' This collection of preludes and fugues in all 24 major and minor keys, dated 1722, is generally regarded as one of the most influential works in the history of Western classical music. The music consists almost entirely of rising broken chords, which gives the piece a calming, romantic and majestic quality. This lends itself very well to period drama soundtracks, and any scene where ideas of dignity and beauty need to be complemented by music.
